What a difference a year can make.
Last summer, Downtown faced extraordinary challenges: ICE raids, protests, curfews, shuttered storefronts, and damage to our public spaces – all at a moment when Downtown simply couldn't handle another setback.
So, CCA stepped up.
We brought together businesses, nonprofits, residents, and civic leaders to launch Revive DTLA: An Urgent Recovery Plan for the Heart of Los Angeles — a practical, immediate, and achievable action plan rooted in a simple belief that when we focus on the fundamentals — like clean, safe, welcoming public spaces, and vibrant streets — we create the conditions for growth.
Over the past several months, you've heard about the progress we've made in allocating public safety investments, securing resources to clean and beautify our public spaces, and ensuring Downtown is positioned to capitalize on opportunities like the World Cup. Those efforts are already translating into more people on our streets, increased transit ridership, and more spending in our businesses.
The tide is turning, and the momentum is real. Perhaps no project better symbolizes this than Oceanwide Plaza.
This morning, I joined the new ownership team to watch the first crews arrive on site and begin removing the graffiti that has defined those towers for far too long. It was more than a cleanup; it was the visible beginning of a long-awaited transformation.
You may have seen me speaking with the media about Oceanwide over the past few days, but standing beneath those towers this morning felt different. It was a reminder that progress doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen when public and private partners commit to moving forward together.
Don’t worry — we’ll still be keeping everyone accountable to get it done, but this morning is another powerful signal that investment is returning, long-stalled projects are moving again, and we’re building the global city we deserve project by project and block by block.
